[edit]Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic съсловие (sŭslovie), from Proto-Slavic *sъslovьje, itself a calque of Ancient Greek σύγκλητος (súnklētos) / σύλλογος (súllogos). By surface analysis, со- (so-) + сло́во (slóvo) + -ие (-ije).
