Etymology

Inherited from Old Ukrainian соборныи (sobornyj),[1] from Old East Slavic съборьныи (sŭborĭnyi),[2] possibly borrowed from Old Church Slavonic съборьнъ (sŭborĭnŭ) along with съборъ (sŭborŭ) (whence собо́р). By surface analysis, собо́р (sobór) +‎ -ний (-nyj). Doublet of збі́рний (zbírnyj). Compare Russian собо́рный (sobórnyj), Belarusian сабо́рны (sabórny).
