скрапей
Appearance
Bulgarian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Old Church Slavonic скрапии m (skrapii), скрапиꙗ f (skrapija) (reflecting Proto-Slavic *skorpьjь, *skorpьja), an early borrowing from Ancient Greek σκορπῐ́ος (skorpíos), interpreted as a derivative with the suffix -ей (-ej). Cognate with Old East Slavic скоропии (skoropii), Serbo-Croatian скрап (“lappet”). Also loaned into Albanian skrapth (“poisonous bug”) (diminutive).
From the same origin (but borrowed in a more recent time) is the standard term Bulgarian скорпио́н (skorpión).
