[edit]Inherited from Old Ruthenian псїй (psij), from Old East Slavic пьсии (pĭsii), from Proto-Slavic *pьsьjь. By surface analysis, пес (pes) + -ій (-ij). Cognate with Belarusian псі (psi), Polish psi.
