[edit]Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic прѣкословиѥ (prěkoslovije), from прѣко (prěko, “against”) (compare Serbo-Croatian при̏jеко (“across, through, against”), Russian поперёк (poperjók, “across, crosswise”)) + слово (slovo, “word”) + -иѥ (-ije).
