Inherited from Old East Slavic подъѣздъ (podŭjězdŭ). Action noun from подъе́хать (podʺjéxatʹ, to approach), from под- (pod-) +‎ е́хать (jéxatʹ). Compare Ukrainian під'їзд (pidʺjizd).
