[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak péseň, pieseň, píseň + -ня (-nja), from Proto-Slavic *pěsnь, likely influenced by Old Ruthenian пѣсня (pěsnja). Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn пісня (pisnja) and Slovak pieseň.
