[edit]From Old East Slavic пазногъть (paznogŭtĭ), from Proto-Slavic *paznogъtь. Cognate to dialectal Russian па́зногть (páznogtʹ), Ukrainian па́гність (páhnistʹ), Polish paznokieć, Czech pazneht, Slovak paznecht, Upper Sorbian parnoht, Lower Sorbian parnocht, Bulgarian па́знът (páznǎt), Slovene pážnohət. Related to но́гаць (nóhacʹ).
