From *ōčaq ~ očuq "fireplace", from Proto-Turkic *ōt (fire).

Cognate with Old Uyghur 𐽰𐽳𐽽𐽳𐽵 (očuk) and Old Uyghur 𐽰𐽳𐾀𐽽𐽳𐽵 (otčuk), Kazakh ошақ (oşaq), Crimean Tatar oçaq and ocaq, Southern Altai очок (očok), Kumyk очакъ (oçaq), Uzbek oʻchoq, Turkish ocak, Yakut оһох (ohoq), Chuvash вучах (vuč̬ah), etc.
