[edit]Borrowed from Russian остри́ца (ostríca, “pinworm”), probably a calque of the scientific name for the family Oxyuridae. Morphologically equivalent to Etymology 1.

[edit]Similar to the other etymologies, apparently in reference to the spiky frame of the fish (which is also reflected in the other names for the species).
