From Proto-Mordvinic *vajmə ~ *vojmə, from Proto-Uralic *wajŋe (spirit, soul). Akin to Moksha вайме (vajme), Estonian vaim (spirit, soul), Finnish vaimo (wife), Hungarian vágy.
