Etymology

Per Vasmer, probably borrowed from Polish obramować (to put a border around), from Middle High German brëmen (to put a border around), from Middle High German brëm (edge, border); compare English brim. Meaning influenced by ра́ма (ráma, frame). By surface analysis, об- (ob-) +‎ ра́ма (ráma) +‎ -ить (-itʹ) (stem-stressed variant) or as об- (ob-) +‎ ра́ма (ráma) +‎ -ить (-itʹ) (ending-stressed variant).
