Etymology

From Proto-Permic *ńöľät, equivalent to ньыль (ńyľ, four) +‎ -этӥ (-eti). Cognates include Komi-Zyrian нёльӧд (ńoľöd) and Komi-Permyak ньёльӧт (ńjoľöt).
