From нос (nos, nose) +‎ -а- (-a-) +‎ рог (roh, horn), a calque of Ancient Greek ῥινόκερως (rhinókerōs). Cognates include Russian носоро́г (nosoróg), Ukrainian носорі́г (nosoríh).
