[edit]From Old East Slavic надѣя (naděja), from Proto-Slavic *naděja. Compare dialectal Russian наде́я (nadéja), Polish nadzieja, Ukrainian наді́я (nadíja), Czech naděje, Slovak nádej, Upper Sorbian nadźija, Lower Sorbian naźeja, Slovene nȃdeja.
