Etymology

Inherited from Old Ruthenian надзвычайный (nadzvyčajnyj). By surface analysis, над- (nad-) +‎ звы́чай (zvýčaj) +‎ -ны (-ny). Cognate with Polish nadzwyczajny and Ukrainian надзвича́йний (nadzvyčájnyj).
