From Borrowed from Persian فتیله with metathesis, from Arabic فَتِيلَة (fatīla).

Compare with Kazakh білте (bılte), Bashkir филтә (filtə), Crimean Tatar melte, Kumyk мелте (melte, wick), Uzbek pilta (wick), Uyghur پىلتە (pilte, wick); also Tajik пилта (pilta, wick).
