муцам

Bulgarian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Probably of expressive/onomatopeoic origin, related to сму́ча (smúča, to suck) (with s-mobile) or dialectal му́ткам (mútkam, to prod, to jab). Georgiev tentatively draws comparison with English smut, German Schmutz (dirt, stain).

Dictionaries make formal distinction between the transitive and intransitive senses.
