Borrowed from German Lunatiker (sleepwalker), from Latin lūnāticus, from lūna. Compare Macedonian месечар (mesečar), Serbo-Croatian ме̏сеча̄р, related to Macedonian месечина (mesečina), Serbo-Croatian ме̏се̄ц, Russian ме́сяц (mésjac).
