Probably a resultant noun of lost Proto-Slavic *lu- (thrust, poke) +‎ -на (-na), attested with s-mobile in Bulgarian хлу́я (hlúja, to raid, to charge in). If correct, then related to Serbo-Croatian олу́ја (whirlwind).
