[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *lokśťəj ~ *lokśťəŋ, inherited from Proto-Finno-Ugric *joŋkće. Cognates include Moksha локсти (loksti), Finnish joutsen, Northern Sami njukča, Eastern Mari йӱксӧ (jüksö), Komi-Permyak юсь (juś).
