Etymology

Continues Old Church Slavonic лозьѥ (lozĭje, vine shrub), from Proto-Slavic *lozьje. Equivalent to лоза (loza, vine) +‎ (-e), originally meaning cluster of vines. Cognate with Macedonian лозје (lozje), Serbo-Croatian ло̑зје, Slovak lozje and borrowed into Romanian lozie (osier /Salix viminalis/).
