Etymology
[edit]Continues Old Church Slavonic лозьѥ (lozĭje, “vine shrub”), from Proto-Slavic *lozьje. Equivalent to лоза (loza, “vine”) + -е (-e), originally meaning cluster of vines. Cognate with Macedonian лозје (lozje), Serbo-Croatian ло̑зје, Slovak lozje and borrowed into Romanian lozie (“osier /Salix viminalis/”).
