ланго

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Erzya

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Mordvinic *laŋgə (Grünthal suggests *lanka instead), borrowed from Proto-Baltic *lankā (whence Latvian lañka (low, flat surface; big low field), Lithuanian lankà (field, lowland; low, flat surface)).[1] Cognate with Moksha ланга (langa).

Proto-Finnic *langët'ak (to fall) probably borrowed from the same Baltic source.
