лабаз

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Russian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Uncertain. Perhaps borrowed from Komi-Zyrian лобос (lobos), although the direction of borrowing is unclear. Alternatively, possibly of Slavic origin and related to лаба́зник (labáznik, dropwort) and лабазина (labazina, twig, switch), although as noted by Shansky, this hypothesis would require an improbable semantic evolution.
