From Proto-Turkic *küdegü (bridegroom, young husband,son-in-law). Cognate with Khakas кізӧ, Shor кӱзе (küze), Kyrgyz күйөө (küyöö), Southern Altai кӱйӱ (küyü), Kumyk гиев (giyew), etc.
