Inherited from Old Ruthenian крыва́вый (kryvávyj), from Proto-Slavic *krъvavъ. Cognate with Ukrainian крива́вий (kryvávyj). By surface analysis, кроў (kroŭ) +‎ -а́вы (-ávy).
