[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic корабль (korablĭ), from Proto-Slavic *korabľь, an old borrowing from Ancient Greek καράβιον (karábion) or κάραβος (kárabos), whence English caravel.
The marijuana sense is by consonance with коробо́к (korobók, “small box”).
