[edit]From Proto-Turkic *karï- (“to grow old”). Cognate with Kyrgyz карыр (karır), Uzbek qarir, Khakas кирир (kirir), Tuvan кырыыр (kırıır), Yakut кырыйар (kırıyar); etc.
