[edit]From Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *karmɜ~*karpɜ~*karwɜ (“fly”). Cognate with Moksha кару (karu), Finnish kärpänen, Estonian kärbes, Eastern Mari карме (karme).
