[edit]From *qayïsï "which", which is a possessive form of *qayï "which", from Proto-Turkic *ka- (“interrogative particle”).
Cognate with Tatar кайсы (qaysı), Kazakh қайсы (qaisy), Southern Altai кажы (kažï), кайсы (kaysï) Kumyk къайсы (qaysı), Uzbek qaysi, Uyghur قايسى (qaysi), Khakas хайзы (xayzı), etc.
