From Proto-Turkic *yạpïĺč- (to glue, stick to).[1]

Cognate with Kazakh жабысу (jabysu), Kyrgyz жабышуу (jabışuu), Kumyk ябушмакъ (yabuşmaq), Uzbek yopishmoq, Turkish yapışmak, etc.
