Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *məźarə ~ *meźarə, derived from *meźə (what, which) + *arə (value?)[2] (compare Finnish arvo (value), Hungarian ár (price), both of Indo-Iranian origin). Cognate with Moksha мъзяра (məźara), Western Mari мазар (mazar) and Eastern Mari мыняр (myńar).
