From Middle Russian злопамятной (zlopamjatnoj), from Old East Slavic злопомнити (zlopomniti, to remember evil). Likely from an unattested Old Church Slavonic form calquing Ancient Greek μνησίκακος (mnēsíkakos). By surface analysis, зло (zlo, evil) +‎ па́мять (pámjatʹ, memory).
