Etymology

Inherited from Old Ruthenian зливатисѧ (zlivatisja).[1][2] By surface analysis, злива́ти (zlyváty) +‎ -ся (-sja). Compare Belarusian зліва́цца (zlivácca), Russian слива́ться (slivátʹsja), Polish zlewać się.

злива́тися (zlyvátysjaimpf (perfective зли́тися or зілля́тися)

  1. (third person only, of liquids, rivers) to flow together, to interflow, to merge, to mingle
  2. (by extension) to merge, to coalesce (to blend gradually into something else; to join into a single mass or whole)
  3. (rare) Synonym of облива́тися impf (oblyvátysja).
  4. (rare) to pour off
  5. (imperfective only) passive of злива́ти impf (zlyváty): to be drained, to be poured off
