[edit]From Proto-Slavic *zorja (“star”) + Proto-Slavic *plavati (“to swim, to float, to sail”) + -ец (-jec), analogous to марапла́вец (maraplávjec, “seafarer”). Cognate with Ukrainian зорепла́вець (zoreplávecʹ). Compare with Russian звездопла́ватель (zvezdoplávatelʹ).
