From жьэ (źɛ, mouth) +‎ кӏэ (kʼɛ, tail). The word may be reconstructible at the Proto-Circassian level as *žāḳ’ā /ʒaːkʼʲa/. Cognate with Adyghe жакӏэ (žakʼɛ), жакӏьэ (žakʲʼɛ); see there for more.
