[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic желѫдь (želǫdĭ), from Proto-Slavic *žȅlǫdь, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *gelandis, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷelh₂-ond⁽ʰ⁾-is, from *gʷelh₂- (“acorn”). Cognate with Russian жёлудь (žóludʹ), Polish żołądź.
