Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *gomonъ (“noise”). Possibly formed from the onomatopoeic гом (gom, “cry, noise”), preserved in some dialects as гам (gam). The Proto-Slavic etymon is possibly related to or, alternatively, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *gamaną (“game, fun, amusement”).
