[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak haňbiť. By surface analysis, ганьба (hanʹba) + -иц (-ic). Cognate with Polish hańbić.

- (transitive) to disgrace, to bring shame, to dishonour
- (transitive) to shame, to humiliate
- (reflexive with ше (še)) to be shy
- (reflexive with ше (še)) to be ashamed
- нє ганьбиш ше? ― nje hanʹbiš še? ― are you not ashamed? shame on you!
- (reflexive with ше (še)) to hesitate, to abstain
