[edit]From Classical Mongolian ᠭᠠᠪᠠᠯᠠ (ɣabala), from Middle Mongol [Term?] (attested in a fragment found in Turfan), borrowed from Sanskrit कपाल (kapāla). Perhaps via Tibetan ཀ་པ་ལ (ka pa la).
