[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *vejksə, inherited from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *ükteksä (“nine”). Cognates include Finnish yhdeksän, Livonian īdõks, Kildin Sami аххц (axxc).
