From Proto-Turkic *boguŕ (throat, Adam's apple).[1] Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *bog- (to strangle). [2]

Cognate with Turkish boğaz, Azerbaijani boğaz, Crimean Tatar boğaz, Turkmen bogaz, Chuvash пыр (pyr) etc.
