Etymology

[edit]

In the sense of the main Kazakh dish it was probably first introduced by Tatar and Bashkir translators, that were sent by Russians. The word was formed by confusion with «бишбармак» ("five fingers"), another dish, which is called нарын (naryn) in Kazakh. Kazakhs have only traditionally called the dish ет. [1]
