From Proto-Turkic *b(i)āka ([uncertain meaning; possibilies include: frog or turtle/tortoise]). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (baka), Kyrgyz, Tatar бака (baqa), Bashkir баҡа (baqa), Tuvan пага (paga), Uyghur پاقا (paqa), Yakut баҕа (bağa), Turkish bağa, Kumyk бакъа (baqa) etc.
