Etymology
[edit]From a metathesis of а́търапус (áθrapus), from Byzantine Greek ἄθρωπος (áthrōpos). Cognate with Greek άθρωπος (áthropos).
The plural has suppletively been added from Ancient Greek κόσμος (kósmos, “mankind”).
