Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Finno-Ugric *aŋa- (“to loosen, open (up), untie”). Cognate with Finnish avanto (“ice hole”), avata (“to open”), Northern Mansi [script needed] (āŋkwi, “to open, to take off, to skin”), Northern Khanty эӈкта (eṇkta, “to open, to take off, to unfasten”), Hungarian old (“to solve, to untie”).
