Etymology

Borrowed from Old Ruthenian славꙗни́нъ, словѣни́нъ (slavjanín, slověnín), from Old East Slavic словѣнинъ (slověninŭ), from Proto-Slavic *slověninъ. Loss of -ин (-in) akin to граждан (hraždan) and селян (seljan). Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn Славяни́н (Slavjanýn) and Slovak Slovan.
