Appearance
Pannonian Rusyn
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Originally Керестур (Kerestur) (and still thus referred to colloquially), borrowed from Hungarian Keresztúr (literally “cross master”), from kereszt + úr.
руски (ruski, “Rusyn”) later appended to differentiate from the ethnic-Serbian-majority Srpski Krstur, literally, “Serbian Krstur”, which is also referred to as Крстур / Krstur colloquially.
Cognate with Carpathian Rusyn Руськый Керестур (Rusʹkŷj Kerestur), Serbo-Croatian Руски Крстур / Ruski Krstur and Slovak Ruský Kеrеstur. The village is known as Bácskeresztúr in Hungarian, relating to the wider region of Bácska or Бачка / Bačka.
