Learned borrowing from Old Church Slavonic марѳа (marθa), from Ancient Greek Μάρθᾱ (Márthā), from Aramaic מָרְתָא (mārtā). Doublet of Маръта (Marŭta). Cognate with Russian Ма́рфа (Márfa).
