Learned borrowing from Old Church Slavonic марта (marta), from Ancient Greek Μάρθᾱ (Márthā), from Aramaic מָרְתָא (mārtā). Doublet of Маръѳа (Marŭθa). Cognate with Russian Ма́рта (Márta).
